The Board of Education, Administration and Staff of the Phelps School realize their important responsibility in developing a balanced program to teach children the skills and attitudes necessary to be productive citizens.
We strive to create a physically and emotionally safe environment where children will not be afraid to make mistakes or be individuals. To this end, there must be an acceptance of differences, with staff members modeling and promoting positive attitudes and values. By adjusting expectations to individual student needs and abilities, children’s self-esteem can be developed as they strive to reach their potential.
Ours is a partnership with family and community to develop habits of healthful living and recreation, self-motivation, responsibility and the ability to work cooperatively.
The ideal that we work toward is to develop students who love learning, who are actively involved in examining and exploring facts and ideas, who are able to communicate effectively, who make decisions and think creatively to solve problems.
